FOSTERING EMPOWERMENT AND COMMUNITY FOR CHILDREN LIVING WITH TYPE 1 DIABETES.
Camp Gilbert is a safe community of connection and education for children living with type 1 diabetes. At camp children ages 8-18 have the opportunity to make lasting friendships with others who have diabetes. There are water activities, boating, fireside sing-a-longs, games, and more! This is a time for learning, with educational sessions covering nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle management.
The Camp Gilbert staff provides medical assistance for campers around the clock. Medical staff includes physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, social workers, diabetes educators, dietitians, adult volunteers, and experienced camp counselors.
Camp Gilbert is operated completely by volunteers and depends on community support for funding. Gifts of time and talent, along with financial gifts, are always needed and welcome. In 2007, the organizing committee of Camp Gilbert became Camp Gilbert, Inc., a not-for-profit organization.
